The Story of SPECIES & Ethos
We created Ethos to open a new kind of journey — one where travelers don’t just witness the most precious places on our planet, they walk alongside those fighting to protect them. As the expedition arm of SPECIES — a globally renowned wildlife conservation organization with a 20-year legacy of science-based impact — Ethos provides a rare promise: that your journey protects the places you come to see.
Every expedition is powered by the same long-term partnerships, expertise, and on-the-ground relationships that drive SPECIES' fieldwork. From Indigenous communities in South America to Himalayan villages, we work hand-in-hand with communities and passionate local conservation leaders around the world to ensure travel is a force for equity and resilience.
With Ethos, I'm finally extending the invite to you to become part of our conservation story: learning, contributing, and leaving behind your meaningful impact in the exciting destinations we're devoted to protecting.
Thank you for traveling with Ethos Expeditions.

The Ethos Promise
When you travel with Ethos, you protect what you came to see.
Our expeditions are led by the very scientists entrusted with protecting the world’s most endangered species. Paired with local and Indigenous partners, you’ll witness conservation in action — while encountering species and stunning corners of the planet few get to see.
World-class conservation scientists as guides
Your expedition leaders hold PhDs, publish research, and spend most of their lives in the field. They're the pioneers of conservation breakthroughs you'll witness firsthand.
Partnership, not extraction
We don't parachute into communities for photo opportunities. Our expeditions are built on years-long relationships with local guides, Indigenous communities, and conservation stakeholders who are co-creators of every journey.
Directly work with & support the local communities working to protect our planet.
Transparency in action
Each expedition directly supports a SPECIES conservation program, protecting endangered species and the ecosystems they depend on.
A defined share of every journey supports conservation programs, provides scholarships, and directly funds local livelihoods. We'll show you exactly where your investment goes—and introduce you to the people it supports.
Exclusivity with Purpose
Small groups. Limited departures. Destinations that don't appear in guidebooks. We're creating responsible access, authentic connections, and visits that ensure our presence leaves ecosystems and communities better than we found them.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many guests are on each expedition?
We keep our groups intentionally small — usually 8 to 12 guests — to ensure intimacy, sustainable impact, comfort, and a truly personal connection with our guides and local partners.
What kind of accommodations can I expect?
Each expedition balances immersion in the wild with the best of available comfort. You may stay in luxury eco-lodges, private tented camps, or rustic guesthouses designed to bring you close to nature in exclusive destinations.
Who leads the expeditions?
Every journey is guided by internationally recognized conservation scientists, PhD researchers, and Indigenous or local leaders who live and work in the ecosystems you’ll explore. These are the very people driving change on the ground — not seasonal contractors. You’ll spend quality time with world-class experts and guides, and many of our guests walk away with lifelong friends in the leaders who will guide you in this exclusive journey.
How safe are these destinations?
Your safety and well-being are our highest priorities. Expeditions are planned in partnership with trusted local teams, medical and emergency protocols are always in place, we provide top-tier insurance, and our guides are extensively trained. You’ll be supported every step of the way.
Do I need to be physically fit?
Our trips are designed for adventurous travelers with a moderate level of fitness. Activities may include guided hikes at altitude, boat rides, and wildlife tracking. Each itinerary clearly outlines activity levels, and we’ll work with you to ensure the right fit.
How does my journey make an impact?
A share of every expedition supports SPECIES’ conservation programs, provides scholarships for future conservation leaders, creates local sustainable economic pathways that help preserve endangered species and their habitat, and directly funds the livelihoods of our Indigenous and local partners. When you travel with Ethos, you’re part of a legacy that outlives the journey.
Can I bring my family or team?
Yes. Many guests bring their families or colleagues. We also offer private, custom itineraries for groups seeking a fully personalized experience.
